• The real push for industrialization was due to a
  reduction in international trade
• Taxes on imports and War of 1812
• Focused mainly in New England, because they
  needed it (due to lack of trade).

• Eli Whitneys cotton gin magnified the
  differences between North and South.
• North Manufacturing
• South Plantations
• Cotton gin allowed
• Slaves to clean 50 times more cotton per day.
• All types of cotton to be grown for profit.
• Between 1790-1810, the number of slaves in the
  South nearly doubled.
