Introduction
Monitoring plans and restoration specifications
were elaborated for the Annex II (Directive
92/43/EEC) priority plant species Arabis
kennedyae, Chionodoxa lochiae, Pinguicula
crystallina, Scilla morrisii, within the
framework of a LIFE-NATURE-2004 project
(LIFE04NAT/CY/000013) intended to act as pilot
studies for plant species conservation management
in Cyprus.
  • According to the Directive 92/43/EEC, each
monitoring plan should estimate the conservation
    status of a species.
  • Monitoring parameters
  • Estimation of viability based on population
    dynamics
  • Estimation of distribution area
  • Estimation of threats (negative impacts)
  • Estimation of the quality (special structures,
    size) of the habitat

MONITORING PLANS
Step 1 Collection of pre-existing data and
identification of knowledge gaps
Step 2 Preparatory field work aiming at
improving knowledge on species life cycle,
phenology, population size, distribution pattern,
habitat and threats
Pinguicula crystallina
Arabis kennedyae
Step 3 Compilation of monitoring Plans1, 10
Contents Summary of each species biology,
detailed population and distribution data,
description of habitat and threats and assessment
of its conservation status (new IUCN
categories) b) establishment of monitoring
parameters and methods and rationale c)
instructions for parameter estimation and
analysis of results d) literature e) data forms.
