14- Syringe Pumps are being widely used by medical
professionals in the in-vivo diagnosis,
treatment, and research purposes. A syringe pump
is designed to deliver fluid (blood, drug, or
nutrients) to the patient at a predetermined
speed and rate. - A syringe pump consists of a drum attached to a
piston. A motor operates this piston through a
drive screw or worm gear. The drive screw or worm
gear helps push the syringe's plunger in or out,
ensuring a smooth flow of fluids to the patient.
The syringe is generally engaged on a clamp on
the frame and the plunger of syringe is displaced
by the movement of drum. - A syringe pump infuses fluids at a constant rate
hence it is highly useful in intravenous
therapies. In case of medications that need to be
slowly pushed in over a specific duration of
time, syringe pumps are highly useful. In such
cases, syringe pumps help to save the time of
