  • Just like it is in population, culture and
    habitat, Latin America is also very diverse when
    it comes to consumption of alcohol.
  • The average volume and patterns of drinking
    varies significantly across the Latin American
    countries. In some countries only few people
    drink while in others drinking is very common.
    The consumption level is lower than the regional
    average in Mexico, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and El
    Salvador
  • In Mesoamerica, along with lower average alcohol
    consumption, the alcohol consumption among women
    is also very less.
  • There are lot of women who are lifetime
    abstainers in EL Salvador and Mexico. The number
    is 55.8 and 40.5 respectively. The proportion
    of abstainers has dropped in Peru recently making
    it an emerging market for this industry.
