Learn to identify and graph ordered pairs from a
table of values.

In the wild, giant anteaters nurse their young.
At Houston Zoo, baby giant anteaters are
bottle-fed. By the time a baby is 3 months old,
it drinks about 0.5 L of formula each day. The
table shows the amount of formula needed to feed
one baby giant anteater over several days.

Additional Example 1 Identifying Ordered Pairs
from a Table of Values
Write the ordered pairs from the table.
x y
-2 -1
4 7
0 9
5 -3
(x, y)
(-2, -1)
(4, 7)
(0, 9)
(5, -3)
The ordered pairs are (-2, -1), (4, 7), (0, 9),
and (5, -3).

Additional Example 2 Graphing Ordered Pairs from
a Table of Values
Write and graph the ordered pairs from the table.
x y
1 4
-1 -2
3 2
-5 0
(1, 4)
(3, 2)
(5, 0)
(1, 2)
The ordered pairs are (1, 4), (-1, -2), (3,
2), and (-5, 0).
Plot the points on a coordinate plane.
6
Additional Example 3 Application
Graph the data given in the table showing the
number of pounds of food purchased and its cost.
What appears to be the relationship between the
number of pounds and the cost in the table below?
Number of Pounds 1 2 3 4
Cost() 1.85 3.70 5.55 7.40
Write the ordered pairs from the table.
Number of Pounds 1 2 3 4
Cost() 1.85 3.70 5.55 7.40
(x, y) (1, 1.85) (2, 3.70) (3, 5.55) (4, 7.40)
7
Additional Example 3 Continued
The ordered pairs are (1, 1.85), (2, 3.70), (3,
5.55), and (4, 7.40).
Now plot the points on a coordinate plane. Label
the axes.
Cost ()
The graph shows that the cost is the number of
pounds multiplied by 1.85.

Graph the data in the table showing the number of
days and its cost. What appears to be the
relationship between the number of days and the
cost shown in the table below?
Number of Days 3 4 5 6
Cost() 3.75 5.00 6.25 7.50
Write the ordered pairs from the table.
Number of Days 3 4 5 6
Cost() 3.75 5.00 6.25 7.50
(x, y) (3, 3.75) (4, 5.00) (5, 6.25) (6, 7.50)

Check It Out Example 3 Continued
The ordered pairs are (3, 3.75), (4, 5.00), (5,
6.25), and (6, 7.50).
Now plot the points on a coordinate plane. Label
the axes.
Cost ()
The graph shows that the cost is the number of
days multiplied by 1.25.

Lesson Quiz Part II
2. The table shows the number of hours a student
studies for a test and scores. Graph the data to
find the number of correct answers after studying
for 6 hours. What appears to be the relationship
between the number of hours of study and the
score?
Hours 1 2 3 4
Scores 15 30 45 60
90 the score is multiplied by 15.
