Deployment Road Map for 2004
  • Focus initially on creating wireless hot spots
in areas that are natural gathering places for
    students
  • As time and budget permits we will continue to
improve overall coverage in key buildings such as
    Innovation Hall

System Enhancements
  • Security Gateway Upgrade
  • Wireless Access Point Management
  • 802.11g Support

10
Security Gateway Software Upgrade
  • A major software upgrade to the Vernier System
  • Centralize control for the entire system
  • Enhanced user management
  • Per user up and down stream bandwidth limits
  • Enhanced system logging options
  • Report Server

11
Wireless Access Point Management
  • Projected number of Access Points by the end of
    2004 would be over 120.
  • NETs Advanced Network Technologies is evaluating
    several wireless management products.
  • With the management platform, APs can be managed
and monitored for performance and reporting.

12
Guest ID Accounts
  • NETs Advanced Network Technologies is developing
a RADIUS solution to handle Guest ID accounts
    management.
  • The goal is to provide a web base portal for the
ITU Support Center to manage Guest ID accounts.

13
802.11g Support
  • The Cisco access points can be upgraded to the
latest standard, 802.11g, as the marketplace
matures mixing 802.11g and 802.11b support
    degrades performance and causes interoperability
problems so we dont want to move to the new
standard until we can be reasonably sure that
most of our users have hardware that can handle
    it.
  • All 802.11g wireless network cards support
    802.11b access points
