    organisations to improve quality outcomes for
    children and young people.

  • Quality Improvement Leaders from LA and national
    organisations came together with the National
    Childrens Bureau (NCB) with funding from DFES,
    to produce these QIP.

  • Quality Improvement is a journey towards
  • higher quality in childcare through -
  • Learning new skills
  • Making changes in the way we do things
  • Getting clearer about our values and beliefs
  • Setting goals or targets for improvement
  • Changing our behaviour and speech

  • Quality improvement happens through -
  • Teamwork
  • Commitment
  • Leadership
  • Self-examination of practice
  • Being open to change
  • Outside support and training
  • It is the role of the Local Authority to provide
  • the support and training.

  • Quality Assurance (QA) is a specific type of
  • Quality Improvement. QA provides -
  • Recognition that a setting has made real
  • progress against agreed standards
  • An independent review of the settings quality
  • QA has been proved to be effective at raising
  • Quality in settings.

Quality Improvement and Ofsted
  • Ofsted is now exploring how to link the
  • Quality Improvement Principles, Quality
  • Assurance Accreditation and the
  • outcomes of inspections.
  • The principles are to contribute to
  • improving outcomes for children and
  • young people.

  • Childcare Settings and Local Authority Quality
  • Improvement Teams.

  • In 2008 we will begin to provide a more
  • systematic approach to quality improvement
  • with settings, leading to Quality Assurance
  • Accreditation.
