What does Christianity teach about equality?

What does Christianity teach about male and
female roles?
  • Traditionally men and women have separate and
    different roles, set down by the Church and
    endorsed by God.
  • Women have a duty to run a Christian home.
  • Men have a duty to provide.
  • Men must love their wives as they Christ loved
    the church, but men are the head of the household
    and the church.

What are the roles of men and women?
  • Historically men provide, women raise family.
  • Man Hunter, Women Nurturer.
  • Now men and women have equal rights in the eyes
    of the law. Became illegal to discriminate on the
    ground of gender in 1975.
  • (Practise is sometimes different to theory.)

Hindu Teaching
  • Traditional culture men are protectors, women
    are child rearers and homemakers.
  • Attitudes are changing, equal rights given in
    late 1940s ((35 years before UK!!).
  • In the future women will have their place
    (1913)
