The 8th Commandment
  • You shall not steal
  • Exodus 2015
  • It is the boldest expression of greed
  • It is the highest expression of not trusting God
    to meet ones needs

4
If were not trusting God to meet our needs,
were more likely to
  • Steal from our employer
  • Take financial ethical shortcuts
  • Steal time from our family
  • Keep the tithe
  • Not have time for the things of God

5
Greed
  • Excessive desire to acquire or possess more
(especially material wealth) than one needs
  • Insatiable desire for wealth
  • We need a transformed way of thinking

6
Matthew 619-21
  • 19"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on
earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where
thieves break in and steal. 20But store up for
yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and
rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not
break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is,
there your heart will be also.

7
The Worlds Message

  • Wealth Gods blessing
  • Your value your net worth

8
The Message of Jesus
  • Dont store up ___________.
  • Store up treasures in heaven
  • How?
  • Investing your time
  • Investing your talents
  • Investing your resources

9
Matthew 622-24
  •  22"The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes
are good, your whole body will be full of light.
23But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will
be full of darkness. If then the light within you
is darkness, how great is that darkness!
  •  24"No one can serve two masters. Either he will
hate the one and love the other, or he will be
devoted to the one and despise the other. You
cannot serve both God and Money.

10
Question 1 for a new perspective
  • Who do you serve?
  • What are the goals that drive you?
  • Drama

11
Question 1 for a new perspective
  • Who do you serve?
  • Your focus reflects your master

12
Matthew 625-30
  •  25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your
life, what you will eat or drink or about your
body, what you will wear. Is not life more
important than food, and the body more important
than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air
they do not sow or reap or store away in barns,
and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you
not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by
worrying can add a single hour to his life?

13
Matthew 625-30
  •  28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how
the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor
or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon
in all his splendor was dressed like one of
these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of
the field, which is here today and tomorrow is
thrown into the fire, will he not much more
clothe you, O you of little faith?

14
Question 2 for a new perspective
  • What do you truly need?
  • FPU Conversation
  • How has your spending changed?
  • How has your perception of needs/success changed?
  • How has your stress level been impacted?

15
Question 2 for a new perspective
  • What do you truly need?
  • Your worries reflect the object of your faithso
    do not worry

16
Matthew 631-34
  •  31So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?'
or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we
wear?' 32For the pagans run after all these
things, and your heavenly Father knows that you
need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his
righteousness, and all these things will be given
to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about
tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own.

17
  • Drama, part 2

18
Matthew 630-33 (The Message)
  • "If God gives such attention to the appearance of
wildflowersmost of which are never even
seendon't you think he'll attend to you, take
pride in you, do his best for you? What I'm
trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not
be so preoccupied with getting, so you can
respond to God's giving. People who don't know
God and the way he works fuss over these things,
but you know both God and how he works. Steep
    your life in God-reality, God-initiative,
God-provisions. Don't worry about missing out.
You'll find all your everyday human concerns will
    be met.

19
Question 3 for a new perspective
  • What are you seeking?
  • Verse 33
  • What road are you on?
  • Seek secure and lasting wealth

20
  • Seeing and thinking differently
  • Who do you serve?
  • Your focus reflects your master.
  • What do you truly need?
  • Your worries reflect the object of your faith.
  • What are you seeking?
  • Seek secure and lasting wealth.

21
Philippians 419
  • And my God will meet all your needs according to
his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.
