WBI/InWEnt/AfWA/NWSC WORKSHOP KAMPALA (UGANDA),
JULY 24-27, 2007
2 - Conclusions of ISO Rabat workshop
- and follow up of ISO implementation first steps
-
Denis Désille programme Solidarité Eau
3Who was at the ISO Rabat Workshop?
- Representative of the 4 main water stakeholders
(users, local governments, operators and
regulators) - From 10 French-speaking African countries (Benin,
Burkina Faso, Burundi, DRC, Mali, Mauritania,
Morocco, Niger, Senegal, Tunisia)
4What has be done?
- Not a training but collective works
- for a better understanding of ISO standards
- to design how ISO process can be implemented
- Works were based on similar activities than those
scheduled for Kampala (standards presentation,
discussions for understanding, methodology,
standard extract studying, etc.) - But ISO Kampala workshop has been updated with
- Rabat workshop conclusions
- First learning from countries where ISO process
has been launched
5ISO Rabat main conclusions(taken into account
for Kampala Workshop)
- Each site will define its own monitoring system
criteria evaluation - An evaluation is needed between stages 2 and 3,
to be sure action plans are realistic and shared
between all stakeholders - National ISO process advancements will be shared
each 6 months at STC AfWA meetings - National Standards committees must be informed
and (if possible) involved in ISO process - A road map is needed to implement the first steps
of ISO process (moving from a conceptual approach
to pragmatic orientations)
6ISO road map implementation in 4 francophone
countries - What has be done ?
Benin Burkina Niger Senegal

7Conclusions
- If ISO 2451X main objectives are the same, local
implementation will be specific to each context - Local motivation is the key for success (ISO
leaders must be national and local African water
and sanitation services stakeholders)
