Purpose of the Modules
  • To provide a supplement to student learning in US
    10097
  • Increase student knowledge base regarding
    advising services in an engaging and student
    friendly manner
  • Integrate with the existing Advising Portfolio

Who is involved?
  • Freshmen Students in US 10097
  • All US 10097 instructors were invited to
    participate
  • Academic advisors presenting on the advising
    portfolios
  • Co-curricular Learning Community

Student Tool Box for Survival Advising Modules
  • The modules were introduced during the third or
    fourth week of the semester when the advising
    portfolios were presented to the courses.
  • A car theme was developed throughout the
    modules
  • Participants who successfully complete all
    modules will receive a key chain flash drive to
    continue with our theme.
  • Participants will also be entered into a drawing
    for a University book scholarship.

Assessment of the Tool
  • A focus group was conducted for one of the
    sections of 10097 that had required the modules
    as part of the course.
  • A survey will be sent to all other students who
    completed at least one of the modules.
  • Information will be used to determine future
    modification and use.

Future Plans
  • Revise modules for future use (VCD students to
    assist)
  • Collaborate with Study Abroad Learning Community
    to improve our study abroad module
  • Work with the Academic Advising Administrators
    Council (AAAC) and those who coordinate the US
    10097 for use of the advising modules as a common
    touch point.
