Response to Dr. Probstfelds Questions
  • Executive Summary
  • MCC is currently planning to implement the
Luminis Portal to help create a digital campus
that will unify academics, administration, and
community life into a single network of people
and services to bring information, services, and
    communities together.
  • To ensure that the portal implementation will be
successful and to provide further justifications
for the portal implementation, Dr. Probstfeld has
asked MCC BUG the following three (3) questions
  • If it is feasible to move forward with
implementation of the Portal without hiring a
Portal Manager or Portal support personnel for
the foreseeable future who will be responsible
for the content and maintenance in general and
for each of the functional areas of the Portal?
(Names of individuals and their responsibilities)
  • What projects will be resolved or significantly
supported by implementing a Portal? (Describe
project and how it will be positively impacted)
  • What cost savings might be realized as a result
of implementing the Portal? (Description and
estimated dollar amount of cost savings)
  • To respond to Dr. Probstfelds questions, MCC
BUG held a special meeting on March 26th 2008 and
    invited representatives from Valencia Community
College and St. Johns River Community College on
the phone to share with the group their portal
    implementation and maintenance experiences.
Edison College had also provided portal
management information, which was shared with BUG
    members via e-mail.
  • Based on the findings from these and other
colleges that have implemented Luminis Portal,
the BUG group feels that it is possible to move
forward WITHOUT a portal administrator however,
it is anticipated that at some point in time, a
portal administrator will be required to ensure
    smooth operation and coordination. Additional
technical resources will also be required to
provide portal user support as well as customized
    portal channel development.
