Where is Washingtons Indian Country?
  • Short answer All of Washington
  • Longer answer
  • The numerous treaties between the U.S. Federal
    govt and Washington States Indian Tribes
    reserved Tribes natural rights to all their
    lands while granting the United States title to
    said lands for settlement and use by American
    settlers and businesses in exchange for exclusive
    tribal title to parts of the former Tribal
    lands. These lands are now commonly referred to
    as Reservations

Why is CIKR in Tribal Country important to the
Tribes and Federal/State/local/private partners?
  • Tribal Reservations make up 10 of States lands
  • Much of the CIKR is located within these lands
  • Much of the Key Economic Infrastructure (Casinos,
    businesses, esp in Rural areas, is located within
    Reservations
  • Loss of Tribes CIKR would mean the loss of
  • 25,000 jobs
  • 700 million in wages, 185 Million in benefits
  • 1.5 Billion in Goods purchased

Why is CIKR in Tribal Country important to the
Tribes and Federal/State/local/private partners?
  • Tribes are typically 1st responders for
    non-tribal CIKR located within Reservations
  • Tribes would also be first to notice something
    amiss near CIKR on Tribal lands I.E terrorists
    on Puget Sound or near dams, oil refineries etc.
