Background State of Siemens

• Siemens was expecting that we would fix their
  perf problems in the 2006 release we did not.
• Siemens is also expecting that we will be
  evolving the product in 2007 at the same pace as
  in 2006
• Siemens is currently holding up deployment of
  2006 version (staying on R2 SP1) because of the
  concurrent perf issues.
• They have about 10-20 power users that work
  concurrently.
• They create about 1 baseline per hour.  Their
  baselines are large.
• All their projects are on one server.
• We cannot reproduce their issues in-house.  We do
  not have a copy of their database.  They have
  hired a 3rd party to help enable them to give us
  this.
• Siemens has logged 11 issues with support (7 of
  which have also been filed by BT)
• This has been building up to a crisis over time.

Summary of Messages to Siemens

• A new release of Caliber just shipped
• Provides a better requirements editor and
  formatting
• We are scoping some enhancements like DocFactory
  in silent mode and notification of baseline
  creation
• We expect these enhancements to be released XXX
• We would like to explore some alternatives to
  improve performance
• Borland consultant
• Third-Party enhancements to Caliber
• Other Issues like performance, data management
  and replacing Versant require significant
  architectural changes and we dont expect to
  finish this work in the 07 timeframe

• Band-aid fixes can be done by ltDATEgt
• Make DocFactory work in a truly silent mode
• Pop-up an information dialog to other users who
  are locked out during baseline creation
• However, Borland does not expect to be able to
  fix the other performance issues with the
  CaliberRM current architecture

• Borland will help Siemens explore alternatives
  for current limitations, such as
• Handle the deployment problems another way (eg
  split projects onto multiple servers, have
  DocFactory work on a backup system, archive
  purge inactive projects)
• Bring in our black belt consultants or partners
  to analyze and suggest other solutions

• CaliberRM is entering maintenance mode
• We do not expect any major enhancements to
  CaliberRM from this point on
• We will retain RD resources to
• Handle critical escalations
• Certify new platforms based on customer demand
  (eg Microsoft Vista, Office 2007, etc)

• Borland is shifting resources to the next
  generation platform supporting Open ALM
• Will incorporate RM capabilities and migration
  (TBD) from earlier solutions
• Will be based on a high-performance architecture,
  supporting a large number of concurrent users,
  and a large number of requirement assets
• Will support reporting across large data sets
• Will provide a thin-web client for ease of
  deployment
• Siemens CaliberRM requirements will be carried
  forward for consideration in the new platform
• However, this next generation platform will not
  be delivered in 2007, and we cannot commit to a
  timeframe beyond that
