Title:

How do you collect stem cells for Bone Marrow Transplant?

Description:

Bone marrow is the soft, spongy, and fatty tissue found inside bones that is in charge of producing and storing blood cells (RBCs, WBCs, and platelets). These blood constituents serve a variety of vital roles in the body's defence against disease, infections, bleeding issues, and anaemia. The patient needs a bone marrow transplant when this bone marrow is destroyed or is unable to create healthy blood cells (BMT). This is carried out to guarantee the production of healthy cells required for proper body function as well as to ward off infections, blood disorders, and any type of anaemia. – PowerPoint PPT presentation

Bone marrow is the soft, spongy, and fatty tissue
found inside bones that is in charge of producing
and storing blood cells (RBCs, WBCs, and
platelets). These blood constituents serve a
variety of vital roles in the body's defence
against disease, infections, bleeding issues, and
anaemia. The patient needs a bone marrow
transplant when this bone marrow is destroyed or
is unable to create healthy blood cells (BMT).
This is carried out to guarantee the production
of healthy cells required for proper body
function as well as to ward off infections, blood
disorders, and any type of anaemia.
What is IVF Procedure?
Pre-transplant Diagnosis Doctors conduct certain
tests to ensure whether the patient is
well-conditioned and eligible for the
transplant. ECG Echocardiogram Chest
X-ray Spirometry . CBC Colonoscopy
Coagulation Test Pulmonary Function Tests
Chest CT-scan Cardiac stress test
General metabolic laboratory tests Coronary

Ways to collect donor stem cells
The donor is given general anesthesia and his
bone marrow from the back of both hip bones is
harvested for transplantation into the recipient
The donor is given shots for several days in
order for the stem cells in the bone marrow to
travel to the bloodstream. Blood is then taken
from the donor via an IV line. A portion of the
WBCs containing stem cells is separated from the
collected blood. The RBC-containing blood that is
left over is returned to the donor
A type of allogeneic transplant in which the stem
cells from the newborn baby's umbilical cord are
extracted and stored shortly after delivery in
this transplant. These stem cells are frozen and
kept until they are needed for transplantation
Transplant Surgery Bone Marrow Transplant is of
two types Autologous BMT An autologous bone
marrow transplant involves removing and freezing
the patient's own stem cell. The patient receives
high-dose radiation or chemotherapy. Following
that, the patient's saved stem cells are
reintroduced into his body, enabling the growth
of new, healthy blood cells.
Allogeneic BMT Stem cells from the donor are
removed during an autologous bone marrow
transplant and then given to the recipient. The
donor is a member of the recipient's family, such
as a brother, sister, kid, or other relative.
This is because at least some of the recipient's
genes must match those of the donor. For a
transplant to be successful, gene matchingat
least in partis absolutely essential.
