Why are VELS being used in Reporting this year?

• Agreement between the Federal Government and
  Catholic Education Commission of Victoria.
• English Mathematics 2006.
• All subjects Year 7 to 10 in 2007.

Why the VELS Rating?

• To give parents a clearer understanding of how
  their child is progressing against Statewide
  standards.

C for Effort?

• Fears are that a new style of student report
  cards is being tested in Victoria will lead to
  confusion amongst parents and students. Using the
  new system, a C grade means a student is working
  at the level expected for their year. Parents
  Victoria president Elaine Crowle has said, 'Kids
  are going to have to know what this means. If the
  A students are suddenly getting Cs, they're going
  to think, What am I doing wrong?'.
