  • This area is very diverse in terms of
ecological characteristics, therefore it can be
considered an advantage for planting various
plants. In recent years, especially after the
implementation of the land law (1992) and decree
02/CP (1994) under which forestlands were
allocated to individual households, there has
been a explicitly positive change in agricultural
production in the area. People invest more input
in their land by planting cash crop such as
cinnamon and timber trees. Large area of land is
    an advantage for livestock production.

  • ?????????The area, among other regions in the
country, is one of less developed areas.
????????In 2001, average output of cereals per
capita of North East and North West are 259 kg,
242 kg respectively (the country is 433 kg Red
    River Delta is 397 kg).
  • ??????????????? Many people are in food
shortage and strongly dependent on the forest for
their livelihoods. Statistical data shows that
while the non-rice food crop production per
capita (kg/person) on average is 35,0 in the
country while in the northern mountains is 66.2
kg, two times higher than that of the Red River
    Delta (31 kg/person).

  • Owing to the lack of input for agricultural
production, crops gain low yield. While paddy
yield on average of the country is 4.1 tons/ha,
that of the North East and North West are 3.7 ton
and 2.8 tons accordingly, much lower than that of
the Red River Delta 5.5 tons/ha.
