Story Map
  • A story map is an outline of the plot (structure)
    of the story.
  • Is usually a graphic organizer
  • May be done in outline form
  • Helps to organize the stories elements

Conflict
  • The conflict is the problem in the story
  • Types of Conflict
  • Person VS. Person
  • Person VS. Nature
  • Person VS. Self
  • Person VS. Society
  • There may be more then one type of conflict in a
    story, but one conflict is generally the MAIN
    conflict

Rising Action
  • The rising action is the important events that
    lead to the climax.
  • May be any number of events
  • Depends on the story length
  • Must be related to conflict
  • Either builds on conflict or adds new information

Climax
  • The climax is the turn in the story also known
    as the most intense moment
  • Where the conflict causes the story to change
  • Is not necessarily in the middle of the
    storymay be closer to the end

Falling Action
  • The falling action are important events leading
    to the resolution
  • May only be a couple of events
  • Must be related to the conflict
  • Either builds on, relieves(helps solve), or adds
    new information

Resolution
  • The resolution is how the conflict in the story
    is solved.
  • Make sure that you are addressing the conflict.
  • How does this problem end
  • the conflict may not be fixed 100

Major Characters
  • Major characters are people who play a large part
    in the story
  • Name the character
  • What part does the character play
  • Important and Necessary Information

Setting
  • The setting is the place and time of the story.
  • May include dates, specific locations, general
    locations, or other important clues to the place

Person VS. Person
  • Where two people are clashing
  • Examples
  • Harry Potter Harry vs. ???

Person VS. Nature
  • Where a person/people are battling against nature
    (e.g. weather, crops, survival outdoors)
  • Example
  • The Dragons Pearl villagers vs. drought

Person VS. Self
  • Where a person has a problem they must find a
    solution to on their own. Usually an internal
    problem.
  • Example

Person VS. Society
  • Where a person (group of people) dont agree, or
    want to do, what everyone else is doing.
  • Sometimes character choose to go along with
    society, but know it is not the right thing to
    do.
  • Example

Exposition
  • Background information on the characters or
    setting.
  • Found at the beginning of the story
  • May even be found before the conflict

Pro/Antagonists
  • Protagonist- the good character, the person you
    are for
  • Remember PRO is good
  • Antagonist- the bad character, a person you
    want to see defeated
  • Remember ANTI is bad/against
