2The Syrian African Rift is one of the most
important bird migration paths in the world.
The Jordan River, south of the juncture with the
Yarmouk river is almost completely dry. The
polluted water flowing in it is very problematic
for migrating birds natural habitat.
3The Rotenberg Lake was built in the 1920s in
the Yarmouk Valley north of its natural juncture
with the Jordan River. The hydroelectric plant
and the Rotenberg Lake ceased to function in
1948.
4- The Yarmouk River is also almost completely dry.
With the very recent completion of the new Unity
Dam upstream on the Yarmouk between Jordan and
Syria, the winter floodwaters that used to flow
down the Yarmouk and into the Jordan will be
captured and diverted as well
5 The system of dams on the Yarmouk River still
exist today it is possible to flood the lake
once again using the dams on the Yarmouk, as well
as bringing in water from the Sea of Galilee,
without the need for energy or pumping, by using
Canal 0.
