Please remember to
  • Always confirm with the Arts Science Calendar
of the year you enrolled into your Psychology
program (ie., 2005-2006) throughout your academic
career that you are meeting program requirements.
Every year I deny graduation to several students
    because they didnt pay attention.
  • I am available for consultation on program
requirements during office hours, by e-mail, or
by phone, so please take advantage of this and
come in to see me BEFORE you enrol into your
courses for your final yearyou just might be
surprised at what you need or what you dont need!

13
NEW PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS FOR 2006-07
  • Next year, our program requirements will be
changing. However, this will NOT affect you.
You are to go by the YEAR YOU ENROLLED INTO THE
    PROGRAM (i.e. 2004-05 or 2005-06, etc.). The
only people who will be affected by the new
curriculum changes are the students who apply for
the program next summer after completing PSY 100Y.

14
Note on Prerequisites
  • You are being forewarned that the department does
not tolerate students enrolling in courses
without the published prerequisites and removes
all students who do (regardless of your
year-level). Please check very carefully in the
Psychology section of the Arts Science Calendar
to verify prerequisites for each of our courses.
Take note of the pre as our courses do not have
co-requisites or post-requisites. If there is
any confusion, contact me and I will dispel any
    uncertainty or myths for you.

15
Statistics
  • You MUST complete PSY 201H (Statistics I) or its
equivalent BEFORE you take any 300-level course.
You WILL be removed from any and all 300-level
course you are enrolled in if you have not yet
completed a statistics course. In addition, PSY
202H (Statistics II) MUST be completed BEFORE you
take any 300-level lab or 400-level seminar.
Again stats courses are not CO-requisites and are
not to be taken at the same time as the course
    that require them as PRE-requisites.
  • Please also note that where a stated prerequisite
is PSY 201H for a 300-level course, its
    exclusion/equivalent is also acceptable.

16
A Few Tips From the PSA
  • Completion of psych program requirements does NOT
need to be done in numerical order, i.e. students
can and should plan to sign up for 300 level
courses (which are more specialized to their
interest) as soon as they have the 200-level
prerequisite(s), instead of doing what most
people do and wait to finish all of the
    200-series first.
  • If a 200-level course is full, again, try taking
a 300 course - in contrary to popular beliefs,
courses are not coded by some significant
    numerical order, which means 300/400-level
courses are not necessarily "harder" than those
of 200-level. They just cover more specialized
material, which in many ways can be a lot more
fun if you are interested in a particular topic
    in psychology.
  • Students should explore their options in taking
    more independent research courses, e.g.
PSY303/304, especially if they have are
interested in a research topic/idea if not to at
least gain great lab experience in working with
    professors who are frontline researchers.
