Introduction
  • Throughout the history of humanity, people have
    been fascinated by talking animals.
  • In nearly all such stories, the animals sound
    suspiciously like humans and behave like
    humansfrom the big bad wolf to Garfield.
  • Some contain morals to tell people how to
    behaveor how not to behave. Others are purely
    entertaining.

Directions
  • Here is your chance to become familiar with some
    of the various types of animal tales.
  • Your group will be assigned to one of the
    following topics

Topics
  • An Anansi tale from Africa
  • A Brer Rabbit story
  • An Aesop fable
  • A Mexican folk tale using animals that talk
  • An American Indian myth using animals that talk
  • A very recent childrens book using talking
    animals (must bring from home)

Directions (Part 1 Introduction)
  • Go to the library to research your type of animal
    tale as a group
  • Write a brief introduction to your type of tale
    (What is an Anansi tale? Where and how did it
    develop?)1 per group (this will be submitted to
    turnitin.com)
  • Make PowerPoint slides that give bullet points
    or highlights from this introduction as a way of
    introducing your type of tale to the class

Directions (Part 2 The Performance)
  • Pick one specific tale from your topic to present
    to the class
  • All members of the group should read it or hear
    it read aloud
  • Decide on a way to present it to the class other
    than reading it aloud. Be creative! Involve
    everyone in the group.

Directions (Part 3 End Discussion)
  • After your performance, the group will lead the
    class in a brief discussion of the tale you
    performedits moral, its purpose, its effect.
  • Create slides to add to your PowerPoint that will
    guide you in leading this discussion

To sum up
  • 1) Create introduction slides in your PowerPoint
    (How your tale came about, history of your type
    of tale, etc.)
  • 2) Present story (DO NOT just readact it out,
    write a song and perform it, mime it, puppet
    show, etc.BE CREATIVE!)
  • 3) Create slides in your PowerPoint to show after
    you present the story. These slides should
    identify the moral, purpose, and/or effect of
    your story, etc. and give any additional info,
    background, etc.
