Title: Rebuild your life in the time of Trouble (2) The Book of Haggai
1Rebuild your life in the time of Trouble (2)The
Book of Haggai
- 1. Haggai 11-15 a call to renew the work of the
Lord. - Haggai had a message from the Lord to rebuild the
temple of God. Building the temple had a wider
understanding, it means to renew the work of God
among His people. This work includes Spiritual
teaching, thinking, and every aspect of life. - Paul to Eph 220-22 puts this meaning to us very
clearly.
2Rebuild your life in time of Trouble (2)The Book
of Haggai
- This message gives us a huge responsibility and
privilege - The question is how can I be part of this
message? - Haggai gives us four steps to achieve these
goals. - 1. Renew the Work of the Lord
- a. Reject all excuses.
- b. Put your priority right.
- c. Take the initiative to move.
- d. Receive Power.
3Rebuild your life in the time of Trouble (2)The
Book of Haggai
- Reject all excuses. Haggai 11-2.
- The voice of Haggai was the only voice that they
heard from God, for a long time. Yes they heard
Ezekiel and Daniel speaking to them in the land
of captivity. But God spoke now, in this time.
In the sixth month on the first day of the month
(the time of the new Moon) (August). This is a
wonderful time of the year. Its well known as a
holy day of the year. Psalm 813. It was a time
of feasting, where the people of God remembered
what their God did for them.
4Rebuild your life in the time of Trouble (2)The
Book of Haggai
- So often God speaks to us in good times to remind
us of how good He is to us. Yet we have all the
excuses in the world. - Haggai spoke the word of God to the Leaders, to
Zerubbabel, Joshua and to the high priest. - Verse 2, This people says, the time has not come
to build the house of the Lord. - God called them this people, this shows how big
the gap is between God and His people. In the
past God said my people have gone astray, but
now this people.
5Rebuild your life in the time of Trouble (2)The
Book of Haggai
- The reason for God speaking like this, is because
of the time people wasted, and all the excuses
the people gave for not rebuilding the work of
the Lord. - How many times have we said and gave excuses
for- - Why we are not reading our Bible?
- Why we are not committed to the church?
- Why we cannot give?
- Why we cannot be on time?
- And the list goes on and on!!!!
6Rebuild your life in the time of Trouble (2)The
Book of Haggai
- The first step is to reject all excuses in Jesus
name, and come to rebuild our lives by rebuilding
the work of the Lord. - b. Put your priority right. (verses 3-6).
- In verse 3, the Lord said, is this the time to
dwell in your panelled houses? These houses that
will never give you anything!!. - Put your priority right, verse 5. Consider your
ways.
7Rebuild your life in time of Trouble (2)The Book
of Haggai
- 4 times the Lord said Consider your ways, Verses
5,7, Chapter 2 15 and 18 - The message is this, search your heart, wakeup,
do not sleep, this is the time to put your
priority right. - Lamentations 340 Let us search out and examine
our ways and turn back to the Lord. Remember what
happened when you do not put your priority right. - You sow and get nothing!
- You eat but do not have enough!
- You drink but you are not filled!
8Rebuild your life in the time of Trouble (2)The
Book of Haggai
- You earn wages but put it into a bag with holes!!
- This is the time to work hard, to put the Work of
the Lord first above everything else. - Take the initiative to move. (verses 7-12).
- Thus says the Lord of hosts, this statement
appeared more than 300 times. Reference to God
the creator and His order to move. Bring wood and
build the temple. I have provided you with so
much. Have you taken all the wood home and built
your own houses?
9Rebuild your life in the time of Trouble (2)The
Book of Haggai
- There is a blessing in a fast response to Gods
calling, your lives will be revived. - But if the people refuse to obey the Lord, in
verses 9-11. You looked for much, but indeed it
came to little and when you brought it home, I
blew it away. Why? Because of My house that is
in ruins. Haggai describes the spiritual
situation and economical situation of the people
of God. If you reject God, the result is clearly
trouble after trouble.
10Rebuilding your life in the time of
Trouble(2)The Book of Haggai
- But when you obey you will experience the
presence of the Lord. Say with the Psalm 231-3
The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want. He
makes me to lie down in green pastures. He leads
me beside the still water. He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness. For His
names sake. - d. Receive Power. (13-15).
- The Lord said I am with you, says the Lord.
These are my people. The Almighty, the Lord
Himself is with us. What a power that this gives
the people.
11Rebuild your life in the time of Trouble (2)The
Book of Haggai
- When you start helping to build the temple of the
Lord, building His church, His kingdom with all
the responsibility, you are not alone. God is
with you. God is with us. Emmanuel, God with us.
If God is with us who can stand against us??? - You feel power not because of who we are, but
because we know that God is with us. - Let us pray and respond to God.
