Title: Organisation of sport in the U'K'

1
Organisation of sport in the U.K.
2
UK Sports Council has overall responsibility for
British sport. Four National Sports Councils
oversee sport in their country. E.G. Sport
England.
3
However
administration and affairs of each sport is
controlled by its own Governing Body. There
are over 350 separate Governing Bodies in the UK!

EBBA
4
Gov Bodys are all members of the CENTRAL COUNCIL
OF PHYSICAL RECREATION (CCPR) whose job it is to
tell Sport England how the GBs as a group feel
about the development of sport. Because each GB
is responsible for only one sport (generally)
there is a very isolated approach to national
sport.
This results in a decentralised approach to the
development of sport.
5
In contrast the rest of Europe uses a
centralised approach where sports clubs cater
for more than just one sport. Most of the
Governments limited coordination of sport is
through the Department of Culture, Media and
Sport. Minister for Sport is.?
6
The major concern of the Dept. has been the
establishment and development of the National
Lottery through which it raises money for good
causes sport being one of them. Various bodies
send bids for funds to the Sports Council, which
allocates money/funds accordingly. (Ralph Allen
astroturf!) Approx. 200 million is distributed
by Sport England each year.
7
But how does it work?????
