questions, keep the questions together and ask
them as though they are one question with many
parts. Also just assume that a yes/no question
should be followed by some questions such as how
and why in order to spark discussion.

  hobbits starting to fade? What keeps them going

  this? Does Frodo have any idea what is coming in
  the future? Think of a time when a big task came
  along and you werent sure what would be expected
  of you and share with the group.

• How do you find it hard leaving familiar things
  and times in your life? Think of a time where you
  moved to a new house or visited new places. How
  was it for you?

5) Stop the movie as Aragorn takes the hobbits
through the woods leaving Brie. How many of you
were told when you were little, Dont talk to
strangers? Are the hobbits stupid to trust
Strider or Aragorn? Why/why not? 6) Frodo
says as the hobbits are leaving Brie with
Aragorn, I think a servant of the enemy would
look fairer but feel fouler. What does this say
to you about first impression appearances of
people? Keeping this in mind does the rough and
tough look of Aragorn remind you of any figures
from the Bible? (answer help prophets from the
Old Testament, John the Baptist) Resume
movie. 7) Stop movie when Gandalf is trapped
atop the tower, watching the orcs burning and
ripping up trees. What's wrong with Saruman?
(answer help Saruman represents someone who has
fallen for temptation. His hunger for power ends

his orcs ripping up trees in the rain. How might
you guess that Tolkien viewed the relationship
between nature (creation) and industrialization?

Ring off his finger and has been stabbed by the
Nazgul. The ring wraiths, the Nazgul, as Aragorn
has explained, were once great men and kings but
they were tricked and corrupted by the rings
given to them by Sauron. Whenever you see the
Nazgul, what do they appear like in the normal
world? How do they then appear when Frodo puts
the Ring on? What might this say about the
director's view of evil? (answer help Evil is
emptying, causes ruin and decay. It is dark and
hidden and takes on many different forms.
