    leaders of the war

War Film Genre
  • War films broke out after WWI
  • Displays excitement, suspense, and turmoil of
    warfare
  • Films are produced to be used as propaganda to
    get a country to support their entrance into a
    war or to tell their side of the story

  • Situational- understand the concept and what is
    expected of the film from the audience
  • Substantive and Stylistic- content
  • Organizing Principle- how it is organized,
    umbrella label

Situational
  • Helps to depict what the audience is expecting
    and what they already know about the film and
    its story either from the previews or in this
    case about the civil war
  • Rhetor is expected to express his opinion and
    feels about the war
  • An explanation to why the situation was called
    into act, which the rhetor states is because both
    sides are fighting over slavery and whether it is
    right or wrong

Substantive and Stylistic
  • Costumes and props- All authentic because the
    extras were re-enactors who obtained their own
    gear that is from the civil war era
  • Music- bass instruments which are used to bring
    patriotic feeling to the viewing audience and
    helps the audience feel courageous, sad, or
    frightened depending on the scene
  • Context- States how the rhetor feels about the
    war and how he believes that an army is used to
    coerce others and has existed since the Book and
    Genesis so we believe it is right
