but was one of top students in his elementary
    school

insistence, which he disliked and later on gave
    it up

    and Calculus on his own.

  • Professor at the Leiden University

6
The Theory of Relativity
  • In November 1915, Einstein presented a series of
    lectures at the Prussian
  • Academy of Sciences on a new theory of
    gravity, known as general relativity
  • In May 1919, during British solar eclipse
    expeditions, Arthur Eddington
  • confirmed Einstein's prediction

7
The Theory of Relativity
  • This effect is called Gravitational lensing
  • The Times reported that confirmation on November
7 of that year, with the
  • headline "Revolution in science New theory
of the Universe Newtonian ideas overthrown".

8
Famous Quotes
  • I want to know God's thoughts, the rest are
    details.
  • God does not play dice with the universe.
  • Two things are infinite the universe and human
stupidity and I'm not sure about the universe.
  • Imagination is more important than knowledge.
    Knowledge is limited.
  • Imagination encircles the world.
  • Through the release of atomic energy, our
generation has brought into the world the most
    revolutionary force since prehistoric man's
discovery of fire. This basic force of the
universe cannot be fitted into the outmoded
  • concept of narrow nationalisms.
