  • 2. To define and teach schoolwide expectations

Snow Horse Elementary
3
Rationale
  • Snow Horse Elementary was a new school this year,
which provided a prime opportunity to establish a
    PBIS climate.
  • We wanted to introduce our teachers (all coming
from different backgrounds and experience) to the
    concepts of PBIS.
  • Our most exciting outcome involved seeing the
high rates of positives given by various staff.

4
Data indicators
  • Our team regularly reviewed office discipline
    referrals, tardies, attendance, number of
    stars/horseshoes given (classwide rewards), and
    number of individual student recognition.

5
Trends and changes in data indicators
  • What was the beginning point on the indicator
    data?
  • What kind of comparisons were you able to make
(year to year, month to month, quarter to
    quarter, etc.)
  • What did/do you need to know more about regarding
    your data?

6
Implementation
  • We conducted staff/parent/student surveys and
shared the results to identify areas of need.
  • We used our UBI money to provide incentives for
staff to teach expectations and to acknowledge
    student positive behaviors.
  • Monthly drawings as well as treats for whole
staff were used to maintain interest and support
    of PBIS efforts.
  • We shared the results of our surveys with staff
    and parents.

7
Final data
  • We ended with a high rate of positives versus
    negatives.
  • These data tell us that we met our goal of
    obtaining staff buy-in.

8
Plans for adjustment
  • We will continue teaching and reinforcing
    schoolwide expectations, while developing
    correction procedures for next year.

9
Discussion
  • It was exciting to see the concepts we learned in
the summer be put into practice.
  • Our results were better than what was expected at
    the beginning of this process.
  • We learned that administrative support, teamwork,
incentives and encouragement (as well as taking
baby steps) are critical factors positive
    results.
  • We did not know how much fun this would be as we
    embarked on this UBI journey.
