Title: GETTING THE MOST OUT OF GIVING

1
GETTING THE MOST OUT OF GIVING
2
1 Corinthians 414 I do not write these things to
shame you, but as my beloved children I warn you.
15 For though you might have ten thousand
instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many
fathers for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you
through the gospel. 16 Therefore I urge you,
imitate me. 17 For this reason I have sent
Timothy to you, who is my beloved and faithful
son in the Lord, who will remind you of my ways
in Christ, as I teach everywhere in every church.
3
1 Corinthians 161 Now concerning the collection
for the saints, as I have given orders to the
churches of Galatia, so you must do also 2 On
the first day of the week let each one of you lay
something aside, storing up as he may prosper,
that there be no collections when I come.
4
Acts 2035 And remember the words of the Lord
Jesus, that He said, 'It is more blessed to give
than to receive.' "
5
Malachi 16 " A son honors his father, And a
servant his master. If then I am the Father,
Where is My honor? And if I am a Master, Where is
My reverence? Says the LORD of hosts To you
priests who despise My name. Yet you say, 'In
what way have we despised Your name?' 7 "You
offer defiled food on My altar. But say, 'In what
way have we defiled You?' By saying, 'The table
of the LORD is contemptible.' 8 And when you
offer the blind as a sacrifice, Is it not evil?
And when you offer the lame and sick, Is it not
evil? Offer it then to your governor! Would he be
pleased with you? Would he accept you favorably?"
Says the LORD of hosts.
6
2 Corinthians 96 But this I say He who sows
sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who
sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
7
Isaiah 328 But a generous man devises generous
things, And by generosity he shall stand. Luke
1829 So He said to them, "Assuredly, I say to
you, there is no one who has left house or
parents or brothers or wife or children, for the
sake of the kingdom of God, 30 "who shall not
receive many times more in this present time, and
in the age to come eternal life." Proverbs
1124 There is one who scatters, yet increases
more And there is one who withholds more than is
right, But it leads to poverty. 25 The generous
soul will be made rich, And he who waters will
also be watered himself.
8
2 Corinthians 97 So let each one give as he
purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of
necessity for God loves a cheerful giver.
9
1 Corinthians 98 Do I say these things as a mere
man? Or does not the law say the same also? 9
For it is written in the law of Moses, "You shall
not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain."
Is it oxen God is concerned about? 10 Or does He
say it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes,
no doubt, this is written, that he who plows
should plow in hope, and he who threshes in hope
should be partaker of his hope. 11 If we have
sown spiritual things for you, is it a great
thing if we reap your material things? 12 If
others are partakers of this right over you, are
we not even more? Nevertheless we have not used
this right, but endure all things lest we hinder
the gospel of Christ. 13 Do you not know that
those who minister the holy things eat of the
things of the temple, and those who serve at the
altar partake of the offerings of the altar? 14
Even so the Lord has commanded that those who
preach the gospel should live from the gospel.
10
1 Timothy 67 For we brought nothing into this
world, and it is certain we can carry nothing
out. 8 And having food and clothing, with these
we shall be content. 9 But those who desire to
be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and
into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown
men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the
love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for
which some have strayed from the faith in their
greediness, and pierced themselves through with
many sorrows.
11
Ecclesiastes 515 As he came from his mother's
womb, naked shall he return, To go as he came
And he shall take nothing from his labor Which he
may carry away in his hand.
12
Matthew 619 " Do not lay up for yourselves
treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy
and where thieves break in and steal 20 "but
lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where
neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves
do not break in and steal. 21 "For where your
treasure is, there your heart will be also.
13
1 Timothy 617 Command those who are rich in this
present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in
uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives
us richly all things to enjoy. 18 Let them do
good, that they be rich in good works, ready to
give, willing to share, 19 storing up for
themselves a good foundation for the time to
come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
14
2 Corinthians 89 For you know the grace of our
Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet
for your sakes He became poor, that you through
His poverty might become rich.
15
  • Jesus disciples were willing to give up their
occupations to devote themselves completely to
    following Jesus (Mk. 1 16-20 1028).
  • When Zacchaeus owned up to his sinful behavior
and changed his ways, he ended up becoming a
great giver as he gave half of his money to the
    poor (Lk. 198).
  • Who can forget the poor widow lady who only had
two mites to her name, yet she gave it all to the
    Lord (Lk. 211-4).
  • When we read about how the Christians in
Jerusalem shared all they had with each other so
that no one was lacking (Acts 434-35) it will
encourage us to be willing to share what we have
when the occasion calls for it.
  • Barnabas sold his land and gave all the money to
    the church (Acts 436-37).

16
2 Corinthians 81 Moreover, brethren, we make
known to you the grace of God bestowed on the
churches of Macedonia 2 that in a great trial
of affliction the abundance of their joy and
their deep poverty abounded in the riches of
their liberality. 3 For I bear witness that
according to their ability, yes, and beyond their
ability, they were freely willing, 4 imploring
us with much urgency that we would receive the
gift and the fellowship of the ministering to the
saints. 5 And not only as we had hoped, but they
first gave themselves to the Lord, and then to us
by the will of God.
