Provision of a suitable dwelling is considered
among the main problems facing the government
which believes in the necessity of materializing
the role played by scientific research in serving
the society. This attitude is clear within the
government's plan for providing 500,000
residential units spread around various Egyptian
governorates within the next 6 years so as to
cover the increase in housing demand. It was
agreed upon to organize an international
conference, through which, interested parties can
be informed of the experience of several
countries in the field of low cost housing
provision and construction. These countries
include China, India, South American countries,
North African Countries and some Arab countries
in addition to the Egyptian experience. Thus, the
Housing and Building National Research Center, in
collaboration with the Ministry of Housing,
Utilities and Urban Development decided to
jointly organize this international conference
"Towards Low Cost Housing" from May 13-15, 2007
in Cairo. Researchers, experts and policy
advisors worldwide are expected to participate in
this conference through sharing their experience,
opinions and research in the field of low cost
housing.
