Title: IPSF

1
IPSF
  • The International Pharmaceutical Students'
Federation was founded in 1949. Its objective is
"to study and promote the interests of
    pharmaceutical students and to encourage
    international co-operation among them."

2
IPSF Projects PPAC
  • Back to 1999, during the IPSF Annual Congress
held in London, a motion was carried out stating
that IPSF should promote the development of a
    Pharmacy Profession Awareness Campaign (PPAC).
  • In Canada, PPAC is integrated with Pharmacy
    Awareness Week.

3
Proposed Ideas for PPAC
  • Ideas include information booths, surveys, high
school presentations and speaker nights with
pharmacists from many areas of the profession.
Some faculties invite high school students and
prepare fun labs for them to participate in.
  • Sharing ideas with other IPSF members can help us
enhance our involvement in Pharmacy Awareness
    Week.

4
Neema
  • The Neema Project is a Village Concept Project
initiated by IPSF. The project, initiated in
1993, aims to improve the health status of the
villagers residing in and around local villiages.
This is done through various means, including the
setting up of a dispensary and health education.
Pharmacy students have participated in the
project as coordinators, fund-raisers and site
volunteers. IPSF is handing more control to local
villages, but is committed to continuing
    financial support.

5
Development Fund
  • The development fund was created by IPSF to offer
financial assistance to members who wish to
attend an IPSF event but cannot afford the
expense. Members of IPSF are encouraged to hold
fund-raising activities to support the fund.

6
Student Exchange Program
  • The IPSF Student Exchange Program (SEP) allows
students from IPSF member organizations or
Individual Members to live and work in another
country. Participants have the chance to
experience first-hand the way pharmacy works in
another country, meet with pharmacy students from
different places and exchange ideas and
    information.

7
Annual Congress
  • The focal point of IPSF activities is a 10
days-congress held in a different country each
year. The congress aims to provide an
international forum for the review and discussion
of all subjects which may advance the objectives
of the Federation and those of pharmacy students
throughout the world. It is also an ideal
    opportunity to improve relations between
    countries, student organizations and individual
    students.

8
Annual Congress
  • CAPSI is hosting the 50th annual congress in
    2004!
  • It will take place at the end of July in Halifax.

9
EPSA-IPSF Joint Symposium
  • The European Pharmacy Students Federation and
IPSF hold a joint symposium yearly. All members
of IPSF are invited to attend.
  • The ANEPF is organizing the second Joint
Symposium, taking place from the 15th to the 19th
    October 2003 in Strasbourg

10
Other Symposia
  • Each region of IPSF holds a yearly symposium. Our
region holds the Pan American Regional Symposium
in February. Any member of IPSF is invited to
    attend.
  • IPSF also holds a students day with the
international federation of pharmacists (FIP) in
September, and a scientific symposium in October.

11
Communication
  • IPSF and the Pan American Region have listserves
for members. There is also a chat room on the
IPSF website, and numerous e-groups for the
projects and interest groups in IPSF.

12
Circulars and News Bulletins
  • Quarterly circulars are available from the IPSF
website. Printed news bulletins are delivered to
member countries and published online. The news
bulletins act like CAPSIL they provide
information about IPSF and its projects and
    contain articles written by members.

13
Other Projects and Events
  • A clinical skills event is held at every annual
congress to help members improve clinical
practice. Countries are encouraged to hold their
own clinical skills event, but in Canada we
already have the patient counseling and poster
    competitions that are similar.
  • A complementary education educational forum is
    held at each annual congress.
  • A survey on pharmacy education is being conducted
worldwide in the Moving On project.

14
Other Projects and Events
  • IPSF coordinates an AIDS awareness campaign aimed
at teens and a Tobacco Alert campaign aimed at
young children. Resources are available from IPSF
reps, but in Canada we do not usually run major
campaigns since so many other organizations do
the same thing. Resources may be very useful
during pharmacy awareness week when many
    faculties volunteer in local schools.
  • IPSF is attempting to achieve smoke free pharmacy
schools worldwide, but again this is not very
    relevant in Canadian schools.

15
Other Projects and Events
  • IPSF plans events for World Health day and World
No Tobacco Day, and pharmacy schools should take
    advantage of resources available.
  • There is an international book appeal, but it is
    being revised.
  • A new project that collects essential medications
for developing countries is being piloted in
    Singapore

16
Other Projects and Events
  • There are many other projects and events during
the year. The best place to look for them is the
    IPSF website
  • www.ipsf.org
