Entry Requirements The students who would best
perform on this course require a positive
approach to study rather than a set number of
GCSE grades. This is a 100 coursework diploma
marked at pass, merit and distinction level.
Students may wish to further their studies at
BTEC 3 and above after successfully completing
this course. There are BTEC courses at level 4
and 5 equivalent to university degrees

Unit 1 The UK Travel and Tourism Travel and
tourism is now an important part of how we live
today. This topic will provide a broad overview
including the history and development of the
travel and tourism in the UK. Areas studied
include- The development of Victorian seaside
towns, holiday camps, transport
developments, recent news events etc.

  • How to develop a variety of skills and
  • techniques associated with -
  • good customer service,
  • meeting the needs of a range of customers,
  • businesses.

Unit 5 Exploring Marketing in Travel and
Tourism Effective marketing is an essential
activity in any successful travel and tourism
organisation. Learners will explore the basic
principles of marketing in travel and tourism
organisations. Students learn how meet the
needs of specific target markets. This could be
in terms of age, gender, ethnicity,
socio-economic group or family circumstances.

Unit 6 Business Skills for Travel and
Tourism Understanding of financial and
administrative procedures in the travel and
tourism industry are the key component to this
unit. A working knowledge of health and safety
issues and your own personal skills and
qualities will also be examined.

Unit 7 Developing Employability
Skills Developing employability skills in a
work-related project within a travel and tourism
organisation. Developing knowledge and skills
required to work in the travel and tourism
industry skills such as customer service, team
work, problem solving.

Unit 8 Planning Visits for Travel and
Tourism Investigating the different methods of
travel to a variety of destinations both in the
UK and Europe, using different types of
resources for planning and producing simple
itineraries. This also includes understanding
timetables and brochures in order to plan trips
and produce travel itineraries for different
types of customers.
