Resources

• A range of practical resources are used within
  the classroom to ensure all children are actively
  involved in the session.

Helping your child at home

• Target Sheets gives a guideline of what your
  child should be doing by the end of the year.

Number

• Number songs
• Recognition of numbers house numbers, car
  number plates, clocks.
• Counting objects by moving counting spoons,
  shopping items to put in the trolley.
• Counting objects of different sizes.

• Counting objects that cant be moved stairs,
  cars parked in street, pictures in books.
• Writing numbers to write telephone numbers,
  shopping lists, different media.
• Simple addition/subtraction Ive got 5 plates,
  how many will I have if I put out 3 more? I have
  4 sweets and I eat 2, how many are left?
• Games board games, hopscotch,
  dominoes.

Money

• Counting pennies How many pennies are in the
  purse? Count out ten pennies into the piggy bank.
  Touch counting coins.
• Names of coins and their values.
• Language coins, change, buy, sell, value,
  exchange
• Buying small items at home and in
  shops.

Time

• Passage of time sequence of the day, what did
  you do after lunch?
• Sense of time how many claps can you do in a
  minute?
• Clocks oclock and then half past. Times of TV
  programmes. What time do they go to bed?

Shape, Space and Measures

• Weight cooking with your child. Which shopping
  bag is heavier? Lighter? Heaviest? Lightest?
• Shape shapes in the environment. Look for
  repeated patterns in walls, paving, wallpaper
  etc.
• Measures which is longest? Shortest? Taller?
  Shorter? Measure with hands, feet, bricks as well
  as rulers and height charts.

Whole School Target for Numeracy

• To be able to count reliably a set of 10 objects
  or intangibles such as claps or hops.
