Title: Literacy Workshop

1
Literacy Workshop
  • November 2009 for KS1 and KS2

2
Extended Services
  • All schools should be providing the Full Core
Offer. This means that schools provide quality
childcare, a varied menu of activities, have
community use, parenting support and swift and
    easy access to specialist services.
  • Although we have parent information meetings for
each year group, the general consensus was that
as a school, we needed to provide more in depth
workshops for parents, based around literacy and
    numeracy.
  • The view is to develop these into family
    learning sessions.

3
Why are we having this workshop?
  • Part of the Extended Services agenda is to
provide parent information workshops, to develop
    family learning.
  • Through parent discussions and consultations,
literacy was highlighted as an area that parents
wanted more information about, in order to help
    their children at home.
  • We decided to run this workshop as an initial
introduction, to give you a basic overview and to
discover what you would like future workshops to
    contain.
  • We felt, that in order to see what the interest
would be for these type of workshops, we would
hold a combined introductory session for Key
stage one and two parents initially, with a view
to holding family workshops for each key stage
    in the future.
