Katz Far From There a film discussion
Once of the eternal tensions of living in the
United States is the continuous barrage of news
coverage becomes a uniform drumbeat that does
little to impart any real understanding of how
lives can become completely overturned. Jill
Godmilows Far from Poland (1984) and Lynne
Sachs States of UnBelonging (2006) are films
that wrestle with the limits of our understanding
of this conundrum. Both directed by women and
both using radical experimental form, these films
explore how spheres of domestic life intersect
