16
Driving Under The Influence
  • In the past year according to the Substance Abuse
and Mental Health Services Administration adult
drivers ages 21-25 have driven under the
    influence.
  • Older drivers are not as likely to drive under
the influence of drugs and/or alcohol than those
    who are younger
  • Out of adults ages 26-39 24 drove while under
the influence in the past year
  • Out of adults ages 35-49 19 drove while under
the influence in the past year

17
Driving Under The Influence
  • Alcohol alcohol affects perception,
    coordination, and judgment
  • Marijuana marijuana affects the ability to stay
in the lines, brake quickly, and maintain a
constant and safe speed. Marijuana affects all
driving skills because it slows down thinking and
    reflexes
  • Other drugs such as sedatives, sedative-hypnotic,
and anxiety agents, slow overall reactions and
    affect hand-eye coordination immensely.
  • Amphetamines impair judgment and can also make a
    driver less coordinated
  • Hallucinogens distort judgment cause panic to
drivers putting them in serious danger

18
Driving Under The Influence
  • While driving it is always important to stay
    sober and alert.
  • If a driver is not sober they are always at a
disadvantage on the road and then put themselves
    and others in danger.
