Slides/Diagrams M/S PowerPoint
  • Open a file / Create a new file
  • Insert a new slide and pick a template for it
  • Draw picture with toolbar at bottom of
    screen Lines, Rectangles, Ovals, Textboxes
  • Cut/Copy and Paste - Move Lines, Circles Cround
  • Use Undo or Highlight/Delete to Erase
  • Use Control-D to copy a portion of a picture
  • Save File to Disk
  • Print File or Send File to Others via File
    Transfer

PowerPoint versus Word
  • Word assumes that you are creating a text
    document and is automatically set up for you to
    type in your text.
  • PowerPoint assumes that you are creating a slide
    and is automatically set up for you to draw a
    picture.
  • You need to create a textbox to type in text.

Drawing Tools / Tool Bar
  • At the bottom of your Powerpoint window, you
    should see a toolbar that begins with a box
    labelled Draw.
  • If you dont see that toolbar, it may not be
    enabled. Go to View/Toolbars menu and select
    Drawing.
  • Click on a desired shape on this toolbar and then
    click on a location in the slide to place it

Moving drawn Items arouond
  • Move mouse pointer to item
  • Click on item and hold left button down
  • Drag item by moving mouse
  • Release button to leave item in its current
    location

Deleting / Restoring Drawn Items
  • Select item by clicking mouse pointer on it
  • Hit Delete Key
  • To restore item, Use Undo on Edit Menu

Grouping/UnGrouping Items
  • To group a set of items together into one item
  • Scan the cursor over all the items to select them
  • Click on the Draw box
  • Select Group and they will become one item
  • To Ungroup an item that has been grouped
  • Select the item
  • Click on the Draw box
  • Select UnGroup to get independent items again

Rotating or Flipping Items
  • To rotate or flip an item on the page
  • Select the Item
  • Click on Draw box
  • Choose Rotate or Flip
  • Select the desired operation
  • Rotate Left, Right or Free (arbitrary amount)
  • Flip Horizontally or Vertically

Moving Items Front or Back
  • To move an item to the front of or to the back of
    another item
  • Select the Item
  • Click on Draw box
  • Choose Order
  • Select the desired operation
  • Bring Front/Send to Back Put on Top or Bottom
  • Bring Forward/Send Backward One Level Up/Down

Downloading a Graphics Image
  • To download a graphics image from a web page
  • While the page is open, place Pointer on the
    image and click on the RIGHT button to get a
    menu.
  • Select Save Image (filename) on the menu
  • You will get a Save window showing a location
    on your local disk
  • Select desired folder on your disk in the Save
    window and click the Save button

  • Double Click on Image File to Open it with
    Microsoft Photo Editor
  • Select Copy under Edit menu
  • Go to PowerPoint slide
  • Select Paste under Edit menu
  • Move graphic around with mouse
  • Resize graphic by pulling on the edges
