  Council or Guild. By 1957 Parish Council
  replaced by Community Councils based on
  geographical areas Parish or Ecclesiastical
  subdivisions known as station areas.
• Mid 1970s no. affiliated to Muintir exceeded
  300 by 1989 declined to 120.
• Local Government Act 1941 County Councils could
  assist bodies set up for social and economic
  benefit of locality grants for community halls,
  administration and devolution of
  functions extended to urban areas in 1955.
• Gaeltacht Community Development Co-operatives
  inaugurated in 1966
• Save The West modelled on the Basque Mondragon.
  State aid for appointment of managers income
  earning capacity from part time
  employment boosting morale and community
  confidence.
• 1953 Public Health Act grant aid to Voluntary
  Community Organisations to supply services
  similar or ancillary to those provided by the

  elected Councillors and nominees of Community
  Councils abolition of elected Town Commissioners
  and small Urban Councils abandoned in 1973

  communities, Leader Groups, County Tourism
  Committees, the County Manager and the National
  Co-ordinating Team.
