So what exactly does the skeletal system do?
  • It supports our body, protects internal organs,
    provides for movement, stores mineral reserves,
    and provides a site for blood cell formation.

Whats inside our bones?
  • Periostem tough layer of connective tissue.
  • Compact bone thick and dense.
  • Spongy bone strong, less dense.
  • Bone marrow yellow- made of fat cells
  • Red- make red blood cells, some kinds of white
    and platelets.

DID YOU KNOW??
  • Adult humans have about 206 bones in them.
  • Spongy bone isn't really spongy or soft, its just
    less dense than the other bones

Bone Marrow!
  • Bone marrow is made up of two types red and
    yellow. Yellow cells, located in the middle of
    the bone, is made of fat cells. Red is
    responsible for making red blood cells, some
    kinds of white and platelets.

  • What is a Joint?- A place where one bone attaches
    to another bone.
  • 3 different types of joints?-
  • Immovable Joints.
  • Slightly movable Joints.
  • Freely Movable Joints.
  • How does each joint move?
  • Ball and socket-Circular. Located
    in shoulder.
  • Hinge-Hinge. Located in knee.
  • Pivot- Pivot. Located in elbow.
  • Saddle- Side to side/ Up and down.
    Located in fingers.

    strips of rough connective tissue

  • synovial
    fluid- forms thin film within the bone
