HIV epidemiology (31th Dec 2003)

• 662 HIV positive people (from them 179 AIDS)
• 54 homosexual transmission, 20 women, 5 IDUs
• 2/3 from Prague
• 40 the age group 20-29 ys.

National HIV/AIDS Policy

• National AIDS Committee
• AIDS Budget 625 000 Euros/year
• About 10 to NGOs, other funds for state
  prevention, HIV anonymous testing, viral load,
  resistence and support of treatment
• AIDS Treatment 7 ctr at Inf Dis Clinics
• Lighthouse CSAP Prague (up to 15 clients)

Legal consequences

• HAART is fully covered by health insurance and
  available
• Obligatory tested for HIV blood donors and
  pregnant women
• Spreading of HIV can be punished according to the
  Criminal Code (last year has been applied)
• Treatment of HIV can be obligatory according to
  the Public Health Law and is confidential

NGOs related issues

• Lack of finances at the beginning of the year
• Funds cannot be used for personal needs (the only
  exception is CSAP)
• Coordination of NGOs exists and they are
  represented in AIDS National Committee
• NGOs are most effective in the work with social
  groups at higher risk and their efficiency is
  high (voluntary work)

• Temporary housing for HIV positive people
• One week rehabilitation stay
• Help line 24 hours
• Anonymous and free HIV testing for public
• Psychological, social support
• HIV Café, fitness, jacuzzi
• Involvement of HIV into prevention
• Prevention for gay community

What we expect from Integration Project ?

• The Czech republic is an aim country for sex
  tourism.
• The number of HIV positives people from abroad
  (eastern Europe) is increasing and we should be
  prepared for.
• We hope the useful practices learned and increase
  our cooperation with NGOs from EU countries
