Title: The Sin of David

1
The Sin of David
  • Our sin matters and can affect more lives than
    you think. 2 Sam. 24

2
Introduction
  • One of the most beautiful statements God has made
about a person a man after My heart, who will
    do all My will.
  • Technically, David did not do all of Gods will.
    Cp. Exo. 2013-14
  • Davids lifestyle, however, reflected a tender
heart that sought Gods will continuously.
  • The beauty of the Bible reveals the totality of
    one who truly sought God.

3
Introduction
  • In this sermon we focus on the sin of David.
  • Learning that it doesnt matter what the sin is
necessarily, but how far reaching its
consequences can be to self and others.
  • How our sins today are no different in how they
    can affect so many others.

4
Davids Sin
  • The sin a profane census. 2 Sam. 24
  • The Lords anger again burned against Israel. v.
    1
  • God (by allowing Satan) incited David to take a
census of the enrolled fighting men. v. 2 (1
    Chron. 211)
  • After taking the census David was sorry and asked
    Gods forgiveness. v. 10

5
Davids Sin
  • It didnt matter what the sin was necessarily.
  • Some teach that Davids sin was that of pride
    maybe so. Cp. Psa. 754-5
  • Others say his sin was in not practicing the
ransom price in the census maybe so. Exo.
    3011-16
  • The scriptures, however, do not necessarily imply
    what the sin was.

6
Davids Sin
  • The consequences of Davids sin were far
    reaching.
  • Davids adultery with Bathsheba and murder
against Uriah certainly affected numerous people.
    2 Sam. 11
  • His sinful census, however, directly affected the
lives of more than 70,000 (not including their
family, friends, economy, etc. of Israel)!
  • THINK werent there any in Israel to stand up to
    the king? Cp. Acts 529

7
Our Sins Affects Many Others As Well
  • It doesnt matter if people dont know about our
    sins. Psa. 908
  • What matters is that we know, and God knows. Cp.
    Num. 3220-23 Gen. 4416
  • The consequences may be far reaching and greater
than we realize in how it affects the lives of
    people.

8
Our Sins Affects Many Others As Well
  • We need a penitent heart like David.
  • Many do not realize that God works the same today
as He did during the days of David. Cp. Heb.
    138
  • Even though we may have a penitent heart, Gods
    justice comes sooner or later.
  • If/when we become guilty of sin, may we have a
heart tender and penitent like king David.

9
Conclusion
  • You may also be a man after Gods heart but can
bring about great consequences to the lives of
many as a result of your sin.
  • Please consider your heart and the choices you
    make.
