2HSC - Higher School Certificate
Features of the New HSC
- Recognises 13 Years of schooling
- Courses linked to further education, and training
- Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses
count towards HSC and lead to qualifications
recognised across a range of industries
- Includes life skill courses for students with
special educational needs
- Assess students according to set standards
- Students meet minimum standards mark 50
- For each course students receive easy to
understand reports which clearly indicate what
students have demonstrated, known understanding
in each course
3Becoming A Senior Student..
- Means a commitment to two (2) years of a new life
style which centres around school and study
- Students need to attend all classes with a desire
to learn be self motivated and work diligently
in all tasks.
- Learning becomes a serious and full time
occupation, which will at times interfere with
social, sporting life and part time work.
- Staff and junior school up to senior students for
exemplary behaviours, leadership, loyalty and
cooperation.

- Each board endorsed course is different

Courses are either 1 or 2 unit in value
7Extension Courses
- 1 unit in value
- Build on the 2 unit course and requires students
to work beyond standard of 2 unit course - St Pauls offers extension courses in English
and Maths to year 11 students and in some other
subjects to year 12 students
8Requirements of the HSC at St Pauls Catholic
College
These must be made up of
- Minimum 1 unit of Religion
- 2 units of English (several courses to
choose from) - At least 4 courses
- Minimum of 12 units in Preliminary - Minimum of
10 units in HSC - Students must apply themselves diligently and
sustained effort - Complete practical, oral or project specified for
each course - Sit and make serious attempt at all exams
including HSC exams
9Assessments
- School based assessments in the HSC year
contribute to 50 of HSC marks (other 50 comes
from the HSC examinations)
- Students must complete all assessments to the
best of their ability
- If a students is absent on the date of an
assessment task, the only documentation that
will be accepted is - doctors certificate to
validate sickness OR approved leave (correct form
needs to be used to validate the leave)
- All class work, homework assessments are vital
components that enable students to complete the

- lists all courses that the student has
satisfactorily completed

- A. HSC Testamur
- Official certificate confirming your achievements
of all requirements for the award of the HSC
- B. Record of Achievement
- Lists the courses you satisfactorily completed
and reports the school assessment mark, the HSC
exam mark and the band your total HSC result
equates to.
C. Course Reports For every HSC Board
Development course (except VET) you receive a
report that shows your marks, the performance
scale and the band description. A graph also
shows the statistical distribution of marks in
that course
12University Admission Index UAI
- The Universities Admission Index (UAI) is a
numerical measure of a student's overall academic
achievement in the HSC in relation to that of
other students. - This measure allows the comparison of students
who have completed different combinations of HSC
courses. - The UAI is calculated solely for use by
institutions, either on its own or in conjunction
with other selection criteria, to rank and select
school leavers for admission.
13UAI
- The UAI is reported as a number between 0 and 100
with increments of 0.05. - Specifically, a UAI indicates the position of a
student relative to their Year 10 cohort. - That is, a UAI of 80.00 indicates that students
with that UAI have performed well enough in the
HSC to place them 20 from the top of their Year
10 cohort, had all the Year 10 students completed
Year 12 and been eligible for a UAI.
14Eligibility - UAI
- 10 Board Units
- 2 units of English is used in every UAI
- 8 Units from the remaining courses
Only 1 category B is used Cat B subjects all
VET courses, Industrial Technology Accounting
(TAFE)
An average UAI of 65 students need to average 70
- 80s in all their courses.
