Strand Hotel
Victoria - is the main city in Seychelles. In
this presentation, we will share interesting
facts and places that will be useful to everyone
traveling to Seychelles.
2
The Victoria city is rightfully included in a
list of the most interesting capitals of the
world. Did you know that it is the largest city
in Seychelles, but the smallest capital in the
world? Victoria is located on the biggest island
of the archipelago called Mahe. In contrast to
megalopolises, the city is immersed in greenery.
Hills that surround the capital are all covered
with tropical forests.
3
Interesting facts about the capital
Seychelles The city is named after the Queen
of Great Britain - Victoria - in 1841. The
population of Victoria is 26 thousand people.
The area of ??the city is only 20.1 km².
4
Victoria sights Most tourists spend time on the
beach, but in the city itself there is
entertainment for everyone. For example, Market
Street is open for fans of shopping. Here you can
buy souvenirs, fresh fruits and vegetables.
Indian, Chinese shops are next to each other. The
largest market on the Market Street is the
Selwyn-Clarke Market.
5
On the same street there are two main
religious buildings - the Catholic Cathedral of
the Immaculate Conception and the Anglican
Cathedral of St. Paul. The central street is
decorated with a mini-version of Big Ben, where
tourists often take photos. A little further
there is a popular street - Long Pier, where a
museum with the possession stone is located.
The latter is a sign of the French colony and was
established in 1756.
6
In the Botanical Garden of Mont Fleuri you can
get acquainted with flora and fauna. The main
inhabitants of the garden are huge turtles. Some
are about 200 years old, and their weight reaches
250 kg. Francis Rachel is located in a center of
arts and crafts, where guests of the
hundred-persons participate in workshops on
weaving hats. Here you can also buy handmade
souvenirs made from palm leaves, bamboo and
turtle shell.
7
Victorias transport Traffic in the capital is
left-sided. By car you can drive around the whole
island in a few hours and get to the most remote
beaches and small shops, where local residents
buy exotic delicacies. To rent a car for the
whole day will cost you around 50. You can fly
to the neighboring islands by Air Seychelles
aircraft (there are about 25 flights a day). For
a sightseeing tour you can take a helicopter.
8
Buses run from 500 to 2000, the fare is 5-10
rupees. Locals mainly move around the city on
bicycles (an iron horse can be rented for 50
rupees per day). Taxis are working around the
clock. The fare is 10 rupees per 1km. Payment for
the night fare is doubled.
9
What you need to do in Victoria 1. Taste the
national Creole dishes. 2. Find a copy of the Big
Ben clock and that a picture with it. 3. Walk
around the city or rent a bicycle or car. 4. Take
a workshop on weaving Seychelles hats. 5. Enjoy
national flavor in local markets.
