2In 2006 Australian Rotary Clubs will join forces
for Storm the Stage - a talent showcase for 16 to
19 year olds with a passion for drama and musical
theatre.
3Under the patronage of actor, Hugh Jackman, and
theatrical doyenne, Jill Perryman, this exciting
national initiative will build on two years as a
successful WA event.
4National Competition
- Local heats, semifinals and state finals in
Western Australia, New South Wales, Victoria,
South Australia, Queensland and Tasmania will
decide state finalists in - Best Performance Drama
- Best Performance Musical Theatre
5Quality Grand Final
- State finalists will fly to Perth in November
2006, to compete in the Storm the Stage Grand
Final at the Burswood Entertainment Complex.
6Prizes
- Grand Final winners in both Best Performance
Drama and Best Performance Musical Theatre
receive 5,000. - Two lucky finalists will win the opportunity to
audition for Home and Away and All Saints.
7How it came about
- Collaboration between Don Briggs (Cannington
Rotary D9470) and Dr Geoffrey Gibbs, (former
Director of the WA Academy of Performing Arts). - Combined concepts to foster local performing arts
in the Cannington area and promote talented young
actors. - Made possible by founding sponsor Mr Handa -
Chairman of the International Foundation for Arts
and Culture (IFAC).
8Key Goals
- Promote Rotary to young Australians.
- Showcase high standard of emerging talent to the
performing arts community. - Contribute funding to Rotary WA Cord Blood Bank
project.
9Rotary WAs Role
- Develop and manage national competition.
- Produce the Storm the Stage Grand Final.
- Manage Storm the Stage website.
- Process applications.
- Allocate application fees back to the States.
- Commission Storm the Stage Arts Mentors.
10Role of Rotary in other States
- Appoint a State Rotary Coordinator for Storm the
Stage. - Establish a Rotary network to actively promote
Storm the Stage. - Fund local venue hire, equipment and
accompanists. - Conduct heats and their own state final.
- Appoint local judges.
11Encouraging entries
- Local Rotary clubs will
- Promote Storm the Stage to high schools,
colleges, TAFE, tertiary colleges and theatre and
repertory groups in their community. - Encourage interested performers to obtain an
entry form or register on-line at

12Competition levels
- Local heats (local Rotary clubs).
- State semifinals (District Rotary Groups and
State Rotary Coordinator). - State finals (State Rotary Coordinator and State
Arts Mentor). - National Grand Final (Storm the Stage Event
Manager).
13Local heats
- Public events staged in local halls or theatres.
- Judged by local Rotarians, performing artists or
civic leaders. - Admission can be charged.
- Developed with assistance from professional State
Arts Mentor.
14Semi and State Finals
- Local heats feed into semifinals.
- Semifinals feed into state finals.
- Clubs from smaller communities may combine and
work at the semifinal level. - Judged by professionals (arranged by State Arts
Mentors).
15Grand Final
- Two finalists from each State flown to Perth for
the National Grand Final with their State Rotary
Coordinator and State Arts Mentor acting as
chaperones. - Judged by professional panel.
16How Rotary Clubs benefit financially?
- Reimbursement of 20 per applicant distributed to
local Rotary Clubs. - Box office from local heats.
