Rotary's Global Quest
What is Rotary's Global Quest?
Rotary's Global Quest is a major campaign to
increase Rotary membership worldwide.
3
Rotary's Global Quest
Why do we need Rotary's Global Quest?
Rotary is a global organization with the
potential to make a major impact upon the world
in solving the problems of humanity. In order to
expand our great humanitarian and educational
works and strengthen our efforts to advance
peace, understanding, and goodwill, Rotary must
not only stem its recent membership losses but
achieve significant growth as well.
4
Rotary's Global Quest
What is the goal for Rotary's Global Quest?
Our goal for 2001-02 is to bring in one qualified
new member per month per club, with a minimum net
gain of five new members per club at the end of
the year. Every district is to form a minimum of
three new clubs.
5
Rotary's Global Quest
Who is responsible for Rotary's Global Quest?
Every Rotarian has the responsibility and the
opportunity to share the gift of Rotary
membership with qualified men and women from the
business and professional community.
6
Rotary's Global Quest
When does Rotary's Global Quest begin?
Although now is the time for all good Rotarians
to step forward and declare the importance of
Rotary, the official starting date of the quest
is 1 July 2001.
7
Rotary's Global Quest
How long will Rotary's Global Quest continue?
The quest is designed to instill in every
Rotarian the original vision and fundamental
desire to expand our organization so it becomes
the most powerful movement for good that has ever
existed. To achieve such a noble goal, we must
continue our quest indefinitely, renewing and
strengthening our membership every year.

Why is there an awards program for Rotary's

who demonstrate the vision to make this quest a
reality. These are the exceptional leaders who
will build the future of Rotary in 2001-02.

Great Ideas for Clubs
24
Great Ideas for Clubs
Future Leaders of the Rotary World
  • This strategy will help clubs find young leaders
to become members. Each club in the district will
honor three future leaders in two age groups
  • (Group 1) 20 to 29 years and
  • (Group 2) 30 to 35 years.

25
Great Ideas for Clubs
Future Leaders of the Rotary World
These six future leaders will become honorary
members and will be asked to recommend (after
study) the most pressing needs in their
community. The club will then develop projects
to address the identified community needs. After
six months, the honorary members will be asked to
join Rotary as active members.
26
Great Ideas for Clubs
Future Leaders of the Rotary World
There are many advantages to this strategy. The
honorary member and club are fulfilling a needed
community service. Cost to the honorary members
is minimal, and friendships are likely to develop
among the younger Rotarians.
27
Great Ideas for Clubs
Business/Professional/Community Outreach
There is no doubt every Rotarian has associations
with quality men and women in their business,
profession, or community. This strategy asks
every member to invite an outstanding leader in
their business, profession, or community to
become a Rotarian.
28
Great Ideas for Clubs
Publicity - Ads and Accomplishments
Every club in the district will produce a
brochure highlighting their community and
international accomplishments. The brochure will
be distributed widely throughout the community.
29
Great Ideas for Clubs
Publicity - Ads and Accomplishments
The club will then place an advertisement in the
local newspaper to inform the community about the
club's accomplishments and Rotary ideals of
service and to identify members of the club with
pictures. The ad will invite the community to
learn more about what Rotary does.
30
Great Ideas for Clubs
Minimum Club Size - 25
There are over 7 ,800 clubs in the Rotary world
with fewer than 25 members. This strategy would
ensure that every club in the district has 25
members or more.
31
Great Ideas for Clubs
Leadership by Example
This strategy emphasizes true leadership. The
following leaders will be expected to bring in
one new member in the first month of the Rotary
year District level governor assistant
governors membership development committee
chairperson membership development committee
members. Club level president membership
development chairperson membership committee
members.
32
Great Ideas for Clubs
Rotary Foundation Alumni/Rotaractors
Too often Rotary clubs do not capitalize on the
opportunity to bring people into their clubs who
have already experienced Rotary through RI or
Rotary Foundation programs. Through this
strategy every Rotary club will induct a minimum
of two new members who had been previously
associated with Rotary through a Rotary
Foundation or RI program.
33
Great Ideas for Clubs
Simultaneous Inductees
Induct several new members into the club
simultaneously.
34
Great Ideas for Clubs
Former Members
Encourage the membership development committee to
keep track of former club members. If possible,
invite the former members to rejoin your club or
encourage them to join another club.
35
Great Ideas for Clubs
Community Projects
A successful project attracts new members.
Involve club members in worthwhile community
projects
36
Great Ideas for Clubs
Six-Month Plan
Encourage every new member to bring in another
new member within six months. A district in
Arkansas, USA, experienced 17 percent growth
using this plan.
37
Great Ideas for Clubs
Additional Active
Promote the selection of "Additional Active"
members.
38
Great Ideas for Clubs
Rotary Guest Day
Develop a list of potential members and
distribute invitations to those on the list. Host
a meal and information evening for those who
accept the invitation.
39
Great Ideas for Clubs
Survey
Conduct a survey to help members consider
contacts they know who might be potential member.
40
Great Ideas for Clubs
Classifications
The Rotary Club of Trenton, Ontario, Canada,
reads a list of unfilled classifications at each
meeting. This regular reminder helps club
members consider potential members during their
daily interaction with a wide variety of people.
The Rotary Club of Trenton gained 20 new members
through this strategy.
41
Great Ideas for Clubs
Club Forum
Hold a club forum on membership development to
discuss ways to seek out potential members.
42
Great Ideas for Clubs
Increase Efforts
Increase the scope of current efforts and focus
on attracting underrepresented demographics
for example, members of a different age, gender,
or ethnicity.
43
Great Ideas for Clubs
Diary
Encourage club members to keep a 24-hour diary of
everyone with whom they interact. Select
potential members from that list.
44
Great Ideas for Clubs
Rechartering
Reorganize very small clubs as if they were new
clubs through invitation meetings.
45
Great Ideas for Clubs
Bring a Friend Day
Encourage all members to bring guests to club
functions. Designate one meeting a month as
"Bring a Guest" meeting.
