Learning Portfolio - Format
  • Evidence
  • Of learning, not only of experience
  • Organisation
  • Of the evidence in relation to learning outcomes
    of the subject for which recognition is sought
  • Verification
  • Of the evidence presented
  • Declaration
  • By the student of the authenticity of the
    evidence
  • Documentation
  • An appendix containing cross-referenced materials
    support the evidence presented

CIT RPL - Policy
  • Non-award stages
  • Recognition is given
  • For complete modules only
  • Where a minimum of 50 of the outcomes have been
    achieved
  • For a maximum of 50 of the subjects at the stage
    in question
  • For a maximum of 50 of the credits available at
    the stage in question
  • No grades are awarded
  • Where credits have already been awarded for the
    learning (ie certificated), no further credits
    are awarded.
  • These credits can be recognised and transferred
    in the form of exemptions.
  • End of stage classification is based on the
    subjects which have been assessed conventionally

  • Award stages
  • These are defined as any stage contributing to
    the overall award classification.
  • Recognition is granted for complete
    subjects/modules
  • Where a minimum of 50 of the learning outcomes
    have been achieved
  • For a maximum of 35 of the subjects
  • For a maximum of 35 of the credits
  • Marks and/or grades are granted
  • Exemptions are not granted

CIT RPL - Processes
  • At induction all students are made aware of RPL
    provision.
  • Student applies for RPL
  • Head of Department/Course Co-ordinator meets with
    student and indicates process.
  • Assessor is identified generally internal
    examiner for the subject in question.
  • Learning portfolio is prepared by the student
  • Support for portfolio preparation is provided by
    DEIS mentor
  • Mentor liaises with course coordinator

  • Completed portfolio is submitted to assessor
  • Result of assessment is submitted to the course
    board and forwarded to the Academic Council
  • Student is informed of outcome by the academic
    department
  • Result of the assessment and award of
    credits/grades/exemptions is confirmed at the
    relevant examinations board
