  • New Haven 2.9 beds per thousand.

Division into cohorts
  • Five cohorts- myocardial infarction, stroke,
    gastrointestinal bleeding, curative surgery for
    lung, colon etc.
  • Rate of admission for these illness are similar
    as physicians agree on the need to hospitalize.

  • Readmission rates in Boston were 1.64 times the
    readmission rates in New Haven.

    length of stay.
