NEED FOR DEEP SEAPORTS
  • Deep Sea Ports are deep-water ports that can
accommodate a fully laden Panamax ship.
  • The existing Port infrastructure in Nigeria
    suffers from the following constraints
  • Limited draft
  • Lack of sufficient container handling and storage
    area
  • Equipment constraints
  • Expansion limitations
  • Road access

18
DEEP SEAPORTS DEVELOPMENT
  • The reform initiative also threw open the doors
for Deep Sea Ports development via a variety of
private sector investment schemes to expand port
    capacity.
  • Lekki Deep Seaport Project
  • Ibaka Deep Seaport Project
  • Olokola Deep Seaport Project
  • Badagry Deep Seaport Project
  • Brass LNG Project

DEEP SEAPORTS DEVELOPMENT
  • Lekki Deep Seaport Project Advantages
  • Deep draft
  • Modern handling equipment
  • Optimized storage and operating layout
  • Ease of expansion
  • Proximity to Lagos and hinterland connectivity
  • Economy of Scale

26
DEEP SEAPORTS DEVELOPMENT
  • Ibaka Deep Seaport Project
  • Located in the southern part of Nigeria, Ibaka
Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
  • 5,125 hectares
  • Natural Harbour 14meters chart dartum
  • Numerous opportunities for potential investors

29
DEEP SEAPORTS DEVELOPMENT
  • Olokola Deep Seaport Project

The Port Project conceived by both Ondo and Ogun
States is expected to serve as a hub of maritime
activities in West Africa, providing a clear
alternative to extant port facilities in Nigeria.
30
DEEP SEAPORTS DEVELOPMENT
  • Olokola Deep Seaport Project

It is increasingly obvious that the Oil Gas
blocks are moving westwards. The Ports will thus
be a supply base with shorter sailing times and
thus cheaper services. As we all strive to make
the local content act a success, the Port
provides the opportunity for ship building, ship
repairs, breaking up and recycling of ships.
31
DEEP SEAPORTS DEVELOPMENT
  • Olokola Deep Seaport Project - Masterplan

32
DEEP SEAPORTS DEVELOPMENT
  • Olokola Deep Seaport Project
  • The Port will contain amongst others
  • A service port for Oil Gas activities
  • Bulk and Break-Bulk Quays
  • Liquid Jetties
  • Fully Integrated Container Terminal
  • Single Point Mooring
  • RO RO Berths
  • Large Storage Facilities (Warehouses, Silos)

33
DEEP SEAPORTS DEVELOPMENT
  • Badagry Deep Seaport Project

The challenges that has affected port operations
which has led to congestion and longer clearing
periods in Lagos ports has necessitated the
growing demand for a privately developed
international container and bulk terminal port in
Badagry, Lagos State.
34
DEEP SEAPORTS DEVELOPMENT
  • Badagry Deep Seaport Project

The proposed port will be privately developed and
managed under supervisory framework approved by
various State and federal Government agencies.

37
OPPORTUNITIES BENEFITS
  • Generation of massive employment opportunities
through value added activities, direct port
    operations and project site employment.
  • Increase port capacity utilization.
  • Unprecedented increase revenue generation on
ship cargo dues and on storage rent.
  • Create opportunity for the port to acquire the
status of Oil and Gas Port.
  • The mega activities would regenerate economic
    activities through multiplier effect.
  • Bigger vessels will come which will lead to
    economy of scale.

38
CONCLUSION
  • The port is the gateway to the nations economy.
  • Deep Seaports will benefit the national economy
tremendously through enlarged cargo offerings and
    attendant multiplier effects.
  • I wish your committee a very successful
    assignment.

39
THANK YOU.
