What is 4-H?
  • 4-H is a community of young people across America
    who are learning leadership, citizenship, and
    life skills.

How Does 4-H Work?
  • The South Carolina 4-H Youth Development Program
    uses a learn-by-doing approach, the involvement
    of caring adults, and the knowledge and resources
    of Clemson University and the land grant
    university system to empower youth to become
    healthy, productive, and contributing members of
    society.

Why is 4-H Important?
  • 4-H offers informal, age-appropriate educational
    programs for youth.
  • The primary focus of 4-H is positive youth
    development, which is accomplished through a
    variety of delivery modes using hands-on,
    experiential learning programs.
  • 4-H is unique in that programs are designed based
    on the needs of local youth using subject matter
    knowledge gathered globally.

What is a 4-H Club?
  • A 4-H club is a group of five or more youth
    guided by one or more adult volunteers leaders.
  • 4-H clubs provide leadership development,
    participate in community service, and teach
    skills relating to one or more project areas.
  • 4-H clubs are the foundation of the 4-H program.

What is a 4-H Project?
  • 4-H Project areas are determined by a youths
    interest in a specific topic area, and the
    commitment they make to expanding their technical
    skills, subject matter knowledge, and overall
    competency related to that topic.
  • 4-H curriculum is available on over 100 different
    projects to assist volunteers in teaching youth
    about projects.

What is Expected of a 4-H Member?
  • Attend all or most of the 4-H club meetings and
    activities.
  • Participate in community service at least once
    per year.
  • Complete an annual 4-H Project Record Book.
  • Good sportsmanship so that everyone involved can
    have FUN!
