Background
  • In 2005 the HEA emphasised the need for
    pedagogical research (PedR).
  • Responsding, the UK Centre for Materials
    Education (UKCME) established an annual research
    programme
  • The 3rd UKCME research project (2008) focussed on
    the work of Bradford College, specifically its FD
    in Metallurgy and Materials.

  • This report on the Foundation Degree programme
    delivered by the Metallurgy and Materials section
    of Bradford College exemplifies just what can be
    achieved through committed and well organised
    collaboration between academic staff, employers
    and employees.

Background
  • Bradford College - one of the largest FE colleges
    in England
  • Largest provider of HE in the FE sector
  • Only TDA contract outside the HE sector.
  • Offers over 100 different HE courses, of which
    around 20 are FDs
  • (with a further 8-10 under development)
