Title: Lead Teams

1
Lead Teams
  • A Fresh, New Way to Empower
  • Youth and Volunteers

2
The Concept
  • Instead of ONE group of youth, adults and youth
    workers implementing, the youth ministry
    programs
  • These events and activities are divided up among
several teams each given ONE event.
  • The teams are made up of youth, parents, and
youth workers. The teams are YOUTH-led, and
    adult-facilitated.

3
A Basic Definition ofLead Teams
4
Lead Teams
  • A strategy for implementing all major events and
several on-going ministries in the local church.
  • Members of Lead Teams include youth, youth
    workers, and parents.
  • Each Lead Team takes ULTIMATE RESPONSIBILITY for
    their specific project.

5
Lead Teams
  • Are groups of Christian assembled because of
their complementary gifts and their shared
passion for a particular ministry event, project
    or campaign.
  • Are assembled to accomplish a particular task or
mission and exist ONLY long enough to fulfill
    that objective and then DISBAND!

6
Lead Teams
  • Accept ultimate responsibility for their chosen
    ministry, event, project or campaign.
  • Do NOT implement the dreams of the pastoral
    leadership team
  • The pastoral leadership team assists the Lead
Teams in making their dreams become reality.

7
Lead Teams
  • Serve to implement the events, projects, or
campaigns according to a design and spirit
affirmed by the YMC and consistent with the
overall vision and direction of the congregation.
  • The word Lead is more a positive word than
other alternatives such as work. It is a
reminder they do NOT do all of the work. They
simply take the lead, coordinating role.

8
Reasons to Organize Lead Teams
  • In other wordsWhy should we implement the Lead
    Teams Strategy in our church?

9
Lead Teams
  • Assist the pastoral leadership in moving to a
leadership style that emphasizes equipping church
members to do the work of the ministry.
    (Ephesians 411-12).
  • Enables the pastoral leadership to shift time
from event and project management to roles in
ministry more unique to their callings and gifts.

10
Lead Teams
  • Enable pastoral ministers to better balance their
total work hours and weekly schedule.
  • Provide more opportunities for key leaders to
fully express their calling and giftedness in
    ministry.
  • Deepen the sense of ownership in the youth
ministry on the part of youth, parents, and
    leaders.

11
The Process
  • FIRSTthe Youth Ministry Council meets and plans
the events and activities for the youth ministry
    for the coming year.
  • Once these have been determined, the youth are
invited to a PREVIEW meeting to learn the
specifics about each of the events planned by the
    Youth Ministry Council.

12
The Process (continued)
  • Everyone is given the option to select his/her
first, second and third Lead Teams choice.
  • After this information is gathered, the youth
minister/leader along with the YMC assigns
interested persons to the various teams.
  • A Lead Team planning night can then be set for
ALL teams to meet at the church for a joint
    planning session.

13
The Benefits of Lead Teams
  • Youth, parents and adults are empowered to take
ownership and leadership in the youth ministry.
  • The youth minister/leader will have more time to
    minister to teenagers.
  • There is intergenerational communication among
the youth and the adults as the need or activity
    is planned, implemented and evaluated.

14
The Benefits of Lead Teams
  • The youth ministry will be more focused and a
broader scope of people involved in the process
    of developing the youth ministry.
  • More people are able to have a part in the
success of the youth ministry without having to
make a long-term commitment to youth ministry.

17
The Planning Process
  • Monthly
  • Toward the end of the month, planning for the
next month is coordinated. (Not the BEST option.
  • Quarterly
  • Toward the end of a quarterly cycle, planning is
coordinated for the upcoming months. (Still, not
    the BEST option.)
  • Annually
  • We have a winner! This option focuses yearly
with quarterly coordination as an entire youth
    group!
